I read this story in quite a positive light. To me, the story implies that the "Neighbours" will cease to be strangers when they see the other people in their street in trouble. ^^ Nicely done.
ah very good. At first I thought remove the fences to face the storm but then I thought "good fences make good neighbors". From this perspective I see a powerful piece. A comment on human behavior but also a call to it - a command, or perhaps more fitting, a plea.
Interesting... It's almost as if the person is embracing the disaster by removing these barbed fences, thus removing protection, perhaps, and stripping one's self of these additional things... perhaps to embrace or to confront it all better.
At least, that's how I interpret it. It's quite a profound piece I think.
I saw it as a removal of distance between neighbors- a removal of even animosity [often due to ignorance] -and thus a coming together of neighbors to help each other in the face of disasters, and maybe make friends with each other by the time it's over.
